Adam Shinsky

Adam Shinsky

Title: Executive Director Job description: Adam Shinsky became the Executive Director of the Wheeling YMCA in January 2015. Adam is one of the youngest YMCA executive directors in the country. He oversees all operations and fundraising at the Wheeling YMCA. Prior to becoming Executive Director, Adam served as Sports Program Director of the Wheeling YMCA for 11 years. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Adam is married to Amanda (Druschel) and they live in North Wheeling with their 19-month-old son Roman, newborn daughter Mila, and their two Yorkshire terriers. Adam serves on the Wheeling Parochial League Athletic Board, the Elm Grove Elementary School Improvement Committee, and is the head freshman basketball coach at Wheeling Central Catholic High School. Adam is a Philadelphia Eagles and Texas Longhorn fan, proud member of St. Vincent De Paul Parish, and is currently working on his Organizational Leadership Certification through the YMCA of the USA and pursuing his MBA. Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: There is no way to just pick one. I have been coming here since I was 10 years old. I have built so many friendships and have met so many great people. Words cannot describe the impact this organization has had on my life!
John “Mick” Gregorcic

John “Mick” Gregorcic

Title: Operations Director Job description: Financial Operations of the YMCA as well as oversight of other Management/Program Staff. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Married for almost 30 years. Two married children (Justin & Laura) as well at two grandchildren. Interests include following my favorite sports teams, including the Pirates, Steelers and The Ohio State University Football team. Vacations must include a beach! Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: Watching the children interact with our caring, professional staff.
Brian Blazier

Brian Blazier

Title: Senior Director of Programming/Membership/Child Care Job Description: Brian oversees all childcare programs, making sure the YMCA is in compliance with all state and federal childcare laws. He ensures all parents have a fun and safe place to drop off their children while being supervised by certified staff. Brian also manages membership in collaboration with the wellness team, working together to provide a seamless membership experience while increasing membership retention. Lastly, Brian monitors all new programs created by our aquatics and fitness directors. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Brian was born and raised in Wheeling and currently resides in Bethlehem with his wife and two children. He came to the YMCA in July 1993 looking for a job that involved fitness and children. He began his career as a desk clerk and after several years, got promoted to a full-time position. Brian is passionate about hunting and fishing and any day in the woods with his family is a great day. Still a kid at heart, Brian also enjoys playing video games and watching sports with his son. Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: Even after 21 years at the YMCA, I still have the pleasure of meeting new people every day and I can honestly say I enjoy coming to work!
Curtis McGhee

Title: Program Director Job Description: Promote, oversee and participate in existing and new programs throughout the year. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Curtis has two children, Curtis McGhee III 13 years old and Mischa Shae-Marie McGhee 7 years old. Curtis has coached football at West Liberty University for the past six years and enjoys playing softball, basketball, flag football, fishing, golfing and eating wings. Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: “It gives me the platform to work with the youth and the community.”
James Youngblood

James Youngblood

Title: Wellness Director/Front Desk Supervisor Job Description: James is responsible for building a team to best deliver health and wellness options, to include: personal training growth, innovative programming, group fitness for all levels and ages, on-boarding and retention of staff and members. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: James and his wife Sheila married in 2013. Combined they have eight children between them. James is an Expert Rating Certified personal trainer and is also a NPC physique competitor. Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: “Watching the transformations the members make and being able to watch them not only change their body but also their lives for the better.”
Julie Markel

Julie Markel

Title: Advancement Director Job Description: Julie plans, implements and develops corporate membership sales, solicits program sponsorships, maintains a social media presence, is in charge of website development and creates the Wheeling YMCA monthly newsletter and emails. She also plans and conducts various special events and fundraisers while promoting the betterment of the facility and the relationship with its members. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Julie was born and raised in Wheeling, WV and obtained both her bachelor and master degrees at WVU. She returned to the Ohio Valley in 2012 with her husband Austin, son Aidan, and beagle Snoop. They reside in St. Clairsville in a house in the country. Julie enjoys live music, running, going for hikes with her family, watching the Mountaineers and is an active participant in Wheeling YMCA’s group fitness classes. She is also a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and choir. She bleeds gold and blue and can’t believe she has to work so closely with a Pitt alum. Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: “I grew up in Elm Grove and spent most of my childhood playing pickup games at the YMCA. Working at the Y is a perfect fit for me- I get to combine my love of sports and fitness in a place that feels like home. With our staff team and loyal members, there’s no better place to work or workout.”
Jill Paul

Jill Paul

Title: Aquatics Director Job Description: Jill manages the pool and supervises all swimming programs, water aerobics and lifeguards. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Jill is married to Matt Paul and they have a wonderful son. She enjoys watching WVU football games with her family and going to the movies with her son. Jill also likes swimming, bowling, football, camping and family vacations. Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: “The members are wonderful and over time, they’ve become a part of our family. I enjoy listening to them about how they grew up and how things have changed since they were a kid. These people have been here for so long that they become a part of our lives so when a member passes on you remember them forever. The kids are also what makes the YMCA one of my favorite places- they put a smile on my face every day.”
Mary Jane Milbert

Mary Jane Milbert

Title: Membership Coordinator Job Description: Mary Jane maintains membership records including Y-Bank, assists with general membership services and schedules pool parties. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Mary Jane regularly attends Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church in Shadyside, volunteers in community projects, supports fraternal organizations focusing on children with disabilities, and is a veteran advocate. She is also a WVU football season ticketholder and Columbus Blue Jackets fan. Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: “I truly enjoy interacting with our members and assisting them when needed. The Y continues to improve for the benefit of our members and the Ohio Valley. It’s a good place to work.”
Carrie Byrum

Carrie Byrum

Title: Group Fitness Manager Job Description: Carrie manages all group fitness classes and instructors. She works with other instructors to create the group fitness schedule, sees that member demands are met, and ensures that safety is a priority in all classes. She also assists with any special programs or events at the YMCA. Family life/Interests/Hobbies: Carrie is married to her husband RJ of 13 years and has a 12-year-old son Reed. She is very involved with her son’s travel soccer and hockey leagues. Family comes first! Carrie loves the outdoors- gardening, camping, boating, anything outside! Favorite thing about Wheeling YMCA: “I love the Y members. They make the classes I teach and attend enjoyable. The staff and management are team-oriented which makes the workplace a better place.”
